The PerOs formulation approach is the first means of delivering large molecules in a cost-effective, accurate, safe and efficient manner. This technology has applications that could allow oral delivery of bioactive compounds to all monogastric species. To date PerOs has successfully tested its technology with many bioactive payloads of various functions and molecular weights in animal models such as swine, poultry, trout, salmon, carp, tilapia, shrimp and mice.
The Oralject platform combines several naturally occurring sourced materials that bring together features of neutralizing gastric enzymes and stimulating the mucosal immune response. The material sourced for these features comes from plant derived materials including oil seeds, pulse grains and bean seeds. The formulation methods provide a means to increase the specific activity of antiproteases, lectins, fatty acids, isoflavines, and saponins by increasing the activity of any or all active components per mass of bean seed or plant mass that is utilized; which subsequently are extruded into pellets that can be fed orally by standard nutrition practices used by pet, livestock, or aquaculture production facilities. To enhance the testing of naturally occurring components of Oralject competitive assays and techniques are being used to build a database of formulation for oral delivery per species.
The immune stimulating component of the Oralject platform include lectins (mitogenic activity), isoflavones (endocrine stimulating activity), fatty acids (immune modulating activity), and soyasaponins, which have adjuvanting activity. Many of these components are bean specific and can be formulated to meet the demands of the antigen stability and target animal needs. Thus, formulation is diverse and can be designed to the feeding practice of the animal production facility, to the delivery criteria for the antigen and target species, and to the immune response for the infectious disease
